Consider This.

I thought this quote was fitting for the picture.  I added it using picnic.  Photo by Ilaria Orsini.

I work in the field of social work and I work with many young woman dealing with different issues in their lives.  It's interesting how many of them have a hard time being connected to what they really want. So many woman today are too concerned with pleasing everyone and reading other people's minds.  In return they loose focus on what they need, what's healthy.  They have a tough time making decisions, big or small.  They are disconnected from themselves.  It is good to be in-tune to other's needs, but don't loose connection with your own.  Don't sacrifice your needs, standards, boundaries to please others.  If you have a problem with this, try starting with making basic simple decisions everyday.  It might be hard and you will probably make mistakes but this will help you to be more decisive on the big choices too.

Are you indecisive?
Your thoughts?

I really like this! The quote does go perfect with that picture. I tend to lose myself because I tend to be too concerned about others. I needed this little wake up call. Thanks <333

Such solid, insightful advice.

Side note - I need to try picnic.

The quote marries well with picture and your words. Very profound. I am very decisive;-)

Interesting. I think often it is easier for someone to delve into other people as oppose to owning themselves, because that's much more demanding, daring, and scary. There are a lot more "what if's" involved. Every time you care what other people think you lose a little piece of yourself, but it's hard, if not impossible, to let it cross your mind. Just some initial thoughts on your observation. Great post!

i have a degree in psychology (1 of many) - and well through the process i REALLY truely leaned WHO i was - and i questioned EVERYTHING about myself .. i use to be a "follower" i would say now i'm totally a "leader" and i toot my own horn and i don't care what people thingk .. of course i get drawn back in sometimes - but i'm really good at digging myself back out and coming out sqeekey clean :o)

Wonderful! I love Einstein because he was so smart mathematically but yet so wise! That's awesome about the social work, I love helping others. I am pretty decisive in my old age (ha ha 36), I find that the older I get, the less afraid I am of what others think of me!

Ambivalence is my middle name! I think my problem is that I don't want to be responsible for the outcome of the decisions I make, even about the simplest things, like what to make for dinner. What if I cook Stir fry and my husband would've rather had tacos? I fret for so long that I end up cooking nothing at all. And I believe it does come down to caring what other people think too much. Girls especially seem to struggle with this. Why is that?... I see it a lot in the youth I coach as well.

This post is absolutely beautiful. And so true. I'm terribly indecisive about the small things, but usually am able to make a decision and stand my ground when it comes to the big stuff.

First of all, that image is wonderful!

And I love what you have said. I think it's easy for us to become disconnected. I try and refocus on what really matters every day. I find when I don't take time to do this, the more indecisive I become. There are so many distractions and obstacles in life, but we have to remember to connect with ourselves.

Very thoughtful post. I am not a very indecisive person. I tend to know what I want and make decisions easily, but sometimes I pay the price later. I need to be MORE indecisive!

Your blog is lovely! I just found it today, and it's filled with so many beautiful, positive things! I definitely can be indecisive, and am a people pleaser, but still am able to stay true to myself - I just tend to hum & haw, and overthink before I come to the right conclusion!

That is great food for thought. I think I can be indecisive but lately I'm learning to work through that. You have given me something to think about this weekend. Thank you! x

indecisive in everything! but you know what i think what you are talking about above also comes from our tendency to overanalyse our lives - men dont do it as much as we do...

Your right, the quote works so well with the picture!! I'm extremely indecisive, but that's usually when I have to decide between either turkey or ham on my sandwich.

That's definitely an important thing for everyone to make sure to remember, to keep everything in a correct balance! It's great to want to help others, but you have to make sure you put in time for yourself too :)

Very well said. There are times when I honestly do not know how to say know or I may decide to do something just because I feel it is what someone else would want me to do for them. Sometimes, thinking too much about others can be exhausting. I have made it a point this year to put myself first. =)

This is such an inspiring post Rachael! I think alot of the time we do get lost, with so many decisions to make it can be hard to make the right ones or not feel overwhelmed by all the options or lack there of!
Sometimes we really just need to take a step back and look at the little decisions and work up from there.

The quote concurred with me right away. I often have a hard time making decisions and (at the risk of sounding like a martyr) a lot of times I put others wants before my own. It’s easy to get lost in the dreams of others and forget (or fail to discover) your own dreams, your own voice. I find this blogosphere a wonderful creative outlet to share MY thoughts. All of these wonderful bloggers (especially you) have been a wonderful encouragement to me. Thank you.

I worked with young women in crisis for the last few years and found the same to be true. It's a gift to be able to encourage women to think independantly!

Keep up the good work.
