Holiday Classics

My husband and I are trying to make traditions for the holiday season. One thing I am big on during the holidays is food.  What do you eat during the holidays?  Classic honey ham?  Roast beast (name that movie)? How about sushi?  Yes I have not made sushi as a holiday tradition but when I saw this picture I was inspired to do so.  I have tried making sushi before, and I think I might dabble yet again.

Let's begin with the basics: How-To: Classic Maki Roll.  Maybe I'll start by doing a classic California Roll or one of my favorites, a Spicy Tuna.  Don't forget your basic sushi gear.  And one more thing, sustainable seafood online.  If you want fresh seafood delivered to your door, click {fresh seafood shipped}.   Wouldn't it be fun to make sushi and visit Monetary Bay Aquarium? Sounds like a new tradition to me... Are you more traditional?  Or are you going to try something new this holiday?

What foods are traditional for you during the holiday season?

My husband and I travel for Thanksgiving and Christmas, so we celebrate Chrisgiving in between the two holidays now. We cook stuffing, turkey, etc.

Love the sushi tree! I leave most of the cooking to my Mom still these days. My sis and I visit her and my Dad each year for Christmas. I make sure to bake cinnamon rolls though on Christmas morning, and cookies always appear out of my oven at some point each year. :D

A sushi tree - why not? Sushi making is pretty easy once you get the hang of rolling it. Go for it!

That sushi Christmas tree is awesome!

We always buy two massive tins of sweets in the middle of December: Roses and Miniature Heroes this year. And they're always gone within a week and we wonder why we ever bought them!

Christmas dinner is wonderful: turkey and gammon and cocktail sausages and stuffing and potatoes (and sometimes rice if I convince the parents it's a good idea).

I love food at Christmas time! :)

I have never made sushi before but it's something I've always wanted to try. I think it would be so fun. Since our (huge) family always gets together at Christmas and opens presents (one.at.a.time) we usually stop and take a break around 10 and all eat homeade waffles, then around late afternoon we have a huge meal with a honeybaked ham and other Christmas-y foods. I think a nontraditional tradition sounds spectacular, though. :)

Sushi for the holidays! That's actually a really neat tradition to try. It sounds really yummy. My family is Italian so on Christmas Eve we have the traditional 7 Fishes Dinner, and then on Christmas morning my grandma makes her delicious lasagna. :D

Christmas dinner - whatever my mom (or my husband's mom) decide to cook; turkey, ham, chicken - doesn't matter, it's always delish!

The past couple years we've gone out to eat at Chillis after our churches christmas eve service. But this year we are mixing it up by having a Chines food potluck after church at our house :) I can't wait :)

mmm! love sushi. this year we're making waffles & egg gravy our special christmas brunch. we're pretty non-traditional, so we definitely considered a lot of weird non-christmasy things.

Our favourite family tradition is Christmas breakfast. We kick off the festive season with smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and fresh baked bread. All washed down with a glass (or 2) of Bucks Fizz for the adults and orange juice with sparlkling water for the kiddies! I think they like this more than Christmas dinner :O)
Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones. xxxx

OMG! That sushi Christmas tree is sooooooooooo cute! Of course, I don't think I'd ever be able to get past making that first layer, I would probably have eaten them all and never get around to finish making a sushi Christmas tree. hehehehe
