Wednesday Wish-list: Vintage Inspired Swimsuits

Isn't that a fun video?  I love how the woman are a bit more curvy, naturally, back then. Though really, if you think about it, how fair is it to highlight just one body type and glorify that?  That hasn't changed has it? Love your body!  As for me, I am a bit more on the curvaceous side so I will be sporting swimsuits like the ones below.  I have picked my favorite vintage inspired swimsuit from each of my favorites sites.

Etsy Pick:

Pink Vintage Inspired One Piece Barbie Swimsuit $115

Target Pick:

Merona® Women's Retro Dotte Swimsuit - Red/White $34.99

Anthro Pick

Drenched Damask Maillot $228

J Crew Pick:

Urban Outfitters:

 Runway Ruffle One Piece $120

Spiegel Pick
Modcloth:

Bathing Beauty One Piece in Emmy $89.99

DownEast Outfitters:

Sausalito Halter

$29.99

Which do you like best? Do you have a favorite site for shop swimwear?

oooo really like the style of the modcloth one. I'm always looking for a swimsuit that won't make me look like a flatchested 13yr old lol :)

I REALLY love the vintage suits!! I think my favorites from the ones above would have to be the one from modcloth (but maybe in black instead), or the Anthro option.

The Etsy suit (I have a weakness for Barbie) and the J.Crew ones are my favorites! And I love the video -- I think that vintage-esque bathing suits are adorable.

Oh swimsuits! My nemesis! Ack ...

So aside from my initial reaction, I really like that striped number from J Crew. And in general I like their suits.

For really affordable ones - Old Navy usually has a wide variety in a whole bunch of patterns that can be mixed and matched if you buy separates. And I think they're on sale now.

my suit this year is a juicy suit-yellow one piece just like the yellow one piece you featured. it's very flattering. I love love love the black ruffle one piece though-and the black and white one piece.

so so so so cute!

Great post, love the video. In swimsuit ads today all the girls would be oiled up and touching themselves and rolling around in the sand, I'm sure. Vintage and vintage inspired bathing suits are great, the ruching on the bodice is much more flattering than spandex body suits one pieces turned into. Great blog, I'll be back :)

Hahaha...It's very funny. Especially the last part with the kids. I truly love how curvy the ladies are.
I'm curvy too, so I'll be going for something like this..

i love the anthro and jcrew ones personally - but you can't go wrong with any of those beauts.

Yes! I prefer most of those vintage swimsuits to itsy bitsy tiny bikinis that barely cover anything, haha :P I think I like the striped J Crew one and the green Spiegel Pick the best :)

I love the Anthro and UO ones so much! I think I might actually like the UO one the most, though I don't think I could ever manage a strapless swimsuit . . . I'm afraid it wouldn't stay up :(

I love all things vintage! Vintage is just so adorable and chic! I love that last swim suit. I'm addicted to polka dots. I just wore a two-piece polka dotted swim suit a couple days ago. Polkas are so fun!

Oh I ADORE the JCrew cape-stripe! I think one pieces are so fun, classy and sexy. I don't know why some people can't see it?? Just Lovely.

I would agree with the commentator on that clip...heavenly bodies are shapely ones. I love the 50s style. I tend to have to wear swimsuits now as I have lots of moles on my stomach and need to protect them from the sun. The ones you have posted especially the nautical stripey one I love! I have been enjoying recently looking back at 50s/60s fashion, as my mum gave me all her scrap books to look through (she was a hat designer and work in fashion in the 60s) - I am going to scan and post some of her pictures they are incredible! What a time to live in....

forgot to say I nominated you for a Happiness 101 Award on my blog on Monday 17 May "And the award goes to...", check it out..the idea is that you pass it onto your 5 favourite.

Oh I luv this vintage inspired theme! I have to admit I'm hooked on bikinis and wear actual sport swimsuits when I go for a *real* swim. lol.

Have a gorgeous day!

I love these suits, especially the first, third and fourth. I too am a one piece kinda gal and would rock those all summer. I find them to be sexier than two pieces and they can hide my lil belly. Great post!

drool! i've been on a hardcore search for bathing suits because i'm going on a honeymoon in september, but i've lived in san francisco for the past 5 years where my body never sees the sun! i've tried dozens, but unfortunately i haven't found any that look good yet. these are SO cute though!

I've been blessed (cursed?) with a curvy body type, so I love a good one-piece! I love the green bandeau top pair of swimmers (we call them togs where I live!). I need to tone my legs a bit more before I'd be brave enough to lose the board shorts though.

Next, I'm more than just in love with that Urban Outfitters black ruffled suit. It is absolute perfection.
